Takes pride in: Having reached a stage where she not only gets to play with some of her favourite musicians, but also create with them, while being the producer on those projects.
Born to musical parents — her father a professional jazz pianist, her mother a singer/dancer — Armitage was immersed in both the business and the creative side of the arts from a young age. She remembers multitracking using two tape recorders and her dad’s Wurlitzer in their garage when she was around 12.
At 17, she hit the road and has played and recorded ever since, honing her recording and mixing skills along the way. She has worked across genres — as a pianist, keyboardist, vocalist, and producer — with multiple acts both on tour and in the studio.
At around 21, while living and working in Montreal, Armitage was playing mostly cover material but was also composing and showcasing her original works. Feeling she had hit a plateau, she decided to up her game by seeking an artist manager. She called her agent in Toronto and told him her plan. As luck would have it, a couple had just left his desk; they had come to meet with him in search of an interesting artist to work with. Within a few months, the three of them were in LA, launching Armitage’s solo career.
